Run the sacred trails of the Copper Canyons alongside the legendary Rarámuri, where ancient endurance traditions meet one of Mexico’s most spectacular landscapes.
Chihuahua by UTMB takes runners into the heart of Mexico’s legendary Copper Canyons, a network of gorges deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon. With distances from 8.5 km to 135 km, the event weaves through remote colonial towns, dramatic canyon terrain, and the ancestral trails of the Rarámuri people, celebrated as the world’s greatest natural distance runners.
Launched as part of the UTMB World Series, Chihuahua by UTMB is far more than a trail race. It is a cultural pilgrimage into the wild heart of the Sierra Tarahumara, home to the Copper Canyons and the Rarámuri people, whose extraordinary running traditions have inspired athletes around the globe. From the colonial charm of Creel to the remote depths of Batopilas, every course tells a story written in stone, forest, and sky.
The flagship Rarámuri 100M covers 135 kilometers with 6,700 meters of elevation gain, plunging from mist covered ridges into sun baked canyon floors and back again. The 100K from Cerocahui traverses 94 kilometers of jaw dropping scenery with 4,600 meters of climbing. Shorter distances of 59K, 38K, 20K, and 8.5K ensure that runners of all abilities can experience this land of extremes.
What makes Chihuahua by UTMB truly singular is the chance to run alongside the Rarámuri on their home trails, sharing the same paths that have sustained their running culture for centuries. The towering cliffs, lush forests, and the crashing waters of the Batopilas River create a sensory experience that lingers long after the finish line.
