Everything you need to know about TrailSight, GPX exports and GPS watch compatibility.
TrailSight is a platform that helps trail runners prepare for their races. It provides detailed race data including GPS tracks, elevation profiles, aid station locations, time barriers and interactive 3D maps.
You can browse hundreds of trail running events, study the course in detail and export the GPX file directly to your GPS watch — from the website, the iOS app or the Android app.
Yes, browsing events, viewing race details, elevation profiles and interactive maps is completely free. No account required.
Premium features like GPX export, direct watch sync, aid station selection and 3D course preview require a TrailSight+ subscription or a one-time race purchase on the website.
No account is needed to browse events and races. However, you need to create a free account to:
Registration takes less than a minute and only requires an email address.
TrailSight is available in 4 languages: English, French, Spanish and Italian. The language is automatically detected from your browser or device settings, but you can change it in your profile.
Go to the Events page and use the search bar to filter by event name, city or country. You can also scroll through the full list of upcoming events sorted by date.
On the mobile apps, you can also browse events by location and date.
Race data is verified and updated regularly, typically when organizers publish official course information. We update GPX tracks, aid station details and time barriers as soon as new data becomes available.
If you notice outdated or incorrect information, please report it via the contact form — the community helps us stay accurate.
Absolutely! We are constantly adding new events. Use the contact form and select "Missing event" or "Missing race" as the subject. Provide the event name, location and website URL if possible.
We typically add requested events within a few days.
For each race, you will find:
GPX (GPS Exchange Format) is a universal file format used to share GPS data. It contains the race route coordinates, elevation data and waypoints (like aid stations).
All major GPS watch brands — Garmin, Suunto, Coros, Polar, Wahoo and others — can import GPX files so you can follow the course during your race.
Open a race page and click the download button. You can select which waypoints (aid stations, checkpoints) to include before exporting.
On the website, the file is downloaded to your device. On the mobile apps, you can share the GPX file to any compatible app or save it to your files.
GPX is a universal format, so virtually all GPS watches are compatible:
If your watch supports navigation and GPX import, it is compatible with TrailSight.
Yes! Before exporting, you see a list of all waypoints on the course. You can select or deselect individual aid stations, checkpoints and other points of interest.
Start and finish points are always included. This is a TrailSight+ premium feature.
There are two ways:
Direct sync (recommended): Connect your Garmin account in your TrailSight profile, then click "Export to Garmin" on any race page. The course appears automatically on your watch after a sync.
Manual import: Download the GPX file, then upload it to Garmin Connect (web or app) > Courses > Import. Sync your watch to load the course.
You can also connect your watch to your computer via USB and copy the GPX file to the GARMIN/NewFiles folder.
There are two ways:
Direct sync: Connect your Suunto account in your TrailSight profile, then click "Export to Suunto". The route is sent to your Suunto app automatically.
Manual import: Download the GPX file, open it in the Suunto app on your phone, and it will sync to your watch. You can also import GPX files via the Suunto web app at suunto.com.
Download the GPX file from TrailSight, then open the Coros app on your phone. Go to Profile > Routes > Import and select the GPX file. After import, sync your watch to load the route.
You can also import routes via the Coros website at training.coros.com.
Apple Watch does not natively support GPX import, but you can use third-party apps that support GPX navigation:
Download the GPX from TrailSight, import it into one of these apps, and the route will appear on your Apple Watch.
The 3D map uses real terrain elevation data combined with satellite imagery to render an immersive view of the course. You can rotate, tilt and zoom to explore the terrain from any angle.
On the mobile apps, a flyover mode animates the camera along the entire course, giving you a virtual preview of what you will experience on race day. You can adjust the speed and camera angle during playback.
3D map access is a TrailSight+ premium feature.
The elevation profile is an interactive chart displaying altitude changes along the course. It shows:
Hover over the chart (or tap on mobile) to see exact elevation and distance at any point.
Each icon represents a different type of aid or facility:
Time barriers (or cutoff times) are checkpoints with a maximum allowed time. If you arrive after the cutoff, you may be pulled from the race.
On TrailSight, time barriers are displayed with the checkpoint location, the cutoff time and the minimum pace required to reach them. This helps you plan your race strategy and ensure you stay ahead of the cutoffs.
TrailSight+ gives you access to all premium features:
TrailSight+ is available as a subscription:
On the website, you can also purchase single race access if you only need to export one specific race.
Check the Subscribe page for current pricing in your currency.
Yes, on the website only. When viewing a race, you will see an option to purchase single-race access. This gives you full premium features (GPX export, aid station selection, 3D preview) for that specific race without needing a subscription.
Cancellation depends on where you subscribed:
You will keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Free trial availability depends on the platform and may vary over time. Check the subscription page on the website or the in-app store on iOS/Android for current offers.
Remember, browsing events, viewing maps and elevation profiles is always free — the trial applies to premium features like GPX export and 3D maps.
Yes! TrailSight is available on the App Store for iPhone. The app includes all core features: event browsing, race details, elevation profiles, interactive maps, 3D flyover and GPX export to your GPS watch.
The Android app is currently in development and will be available on Google Play very soon. It will offer the same core features as the iOS app: event discovery, race details, elevation profiles, 3D maps with flyover and GPX export.
In the meantime, you can use TrailSight on the website from any Android device browser.
On iOS, you can connect your Garmin account and send routes directly to your watch — no cables or file transfers needed. Suunto and Coros direct sync are coming soon.
The Android app is coming soon and will also support GPX export to your watch manufacturer's app (Garmin Connect, Suunto app, Coros app).
The core experience is the same across all platforms. Key differences:
Your account and favorites sync across all platforms.
Partially. Race data you have previously viewed is cached during your session, so you can revisit it without an internet connection. Your favorites list is also saved locally.
However, maps, 3D visualization and new data require an internet connection. We recommend downloading your GPX files before heading to a race start area where connectivity may be limited.
We take data protection seriously. TrailSight uses HTTPS encryption for all communications, secure password hashing, and does not share your personal data with third parties.
We are fully compliant with GDPR (EU), CCPA (California) and other privacy regulations. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Go to your Profile page (website) or Connected Applications section (iOS app). Click "Connect" next to Garmin or Suunto. You will be redirected to the official authentication page where you grant TrailSight permission to send routes to your account.
You can disconnect at any time from the same settings page.
Yes. Go to your Profile page and look for the account deletion option. This will permanently remove your account, favorites and all associated data.
If you have an active subscription, make sure to cancel it first through the App Store, Google Play or your profile page.
Use the contact form and select "Wrong information" as the subject. Include the race name and describe what is incorrect — we will verify and update the data promptly.
Community reports are essential to keeping TrailSight accurate. We appreciate every correction!
