European Athletics Off-Road Running Championships

SVN Kamnik , SVN | 5 Jun - Jun 7, 2026

Where Europe's finest mountain and trail runners battle for continental glory on the slopes above Kamnik, Slovenia

The European Athletics Off-Road Running Championships bring together elite and amateur runners in Kamnik, Slovenia, for three days of uphill, up and down, and trail racing beneath the Julian Alps. Open to all, this is a rare chance to toe the same start line as European champions on courses climbing to the Velika Planina plateau.

The European Athletics Off-Road Running Championships represent the pinnacle of competitive off-road running on the continent. Hosted in Kamnik, a historic town nestled at the southern edge of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, the event combines classic uphill, classic up and down, and trail formats across three intense days of racing. The courses climb from the valley floor into alpine terrain, with the longer trail distance reaching 52 km through forests, ridges and high pastures.

What makes this championship unique is its open entry policy. Recreational runners can register alongside national team athletes, sharing the same courses and soaking in the same electric atmosphere. The trails above Kamnik lead to the Velika Planina, one of Europe's largest and most beautiful high altitude shepherd settlements, where wooden huts dot rolling green pastures backed by limestone peaks.

Slovenia's reputation as a trail running paradise is well earned. Compact yet spectacularly vertical, the landscape around Kamnik delivers technical singletrack, exposed ridgelines and lush beech forests within a few kilometres. For anyone wanting to test themselves on a championship course in the heart of one of Europe's most stunning alpine settings, this is the event.
