Through Latvia's ancient Gauja National Park, from medieval castles to sandstone cliffs, where Baltic forests meet river valleys
Gauja Trail by UTMB winds through Latvia's Gauja National Park, the country's oldest and largest protected area. Starting from the medieval town of Sigulda and finishing in Cesis, the courses traverse pristine forests, sandstone cliffs, river valleys, and hidden caves across distances from 11 km to 85 km, with a unique passage through the Sigulda bobsleigh track.
Gauja Trail by UTMB brings the UTMB World Series to the Baltic states for an experience that is altogether different from the high mountain races of the Alps. Set within Latvia's Gauja National Park, the event starts from Sigulda New Castle and finishes in Cesis, threading through one of Northern Europe's most enchanting natural landscapes. Four distances from 11 km to 85 km (2,100 m D+) reveal a terrain of unexpected variety.
The courses weave through pristine old growth forests, along the banks of the Gauja River, past sandstone caves, and beneath towering red cliffs that define this region's character. Runners on the longer distances even pass through the Sigulda bobsleigh track and the historic paper mill town of Ligatne, home to unique wooden architecture and a secret Soviet era bunker. Medieval castle ruins and centuries old church spires punctuate the forest canopy throughout.
Gauja Trail proves that trail running excellence does not require extreme altitude. It offers an immersion into the quiet majesty of Baltic nature, where soft forest trails, cultural heritage, and the gentle rhythm of the Gauja River valley create a race experience that is meditative, beautiful, and deeply memorable.
