A French trail running institution crossing the Pyrenees from Tourmalet to Pic du Midi, with up to 10,000 meters of climbing.
The Grand Raid des Pyrénées is one of the flagship ultra trail events in France. Based in the tiny village of Vielle-Aure, the race sends thousands of runners across the high Pyrenees on courses ranging from 40 km to 160 km, passing legendary landmarks like the Col du Tourmalet, Barèges, and the Pic du Midi.
Since 2008, the Grand Raid des Pyrénées has grown from a small local race into one of the most respected ultra trail events on the French calendar. Headquartered in Vielle-Aure, a village of barely 300 inhabitants in the Hautes Pyrénées, the event transforms this quiet corner of the mountains into a buzzing hub of trail running every August.
The flagship Ultra 160 is a single loop course that takes runners through the most iconic terrain in the Pyrenees. The route crosses the legendary Col du Tourmalet, passes through the spa town of Barèges, and reaches a high point of 2,502 meters with views stretching to the Pic du Midi. With 10,000 meters of total climbing, the course demands deep reserves of endurance and mountain savvy.
Seven race distances, from 40 km to 160 km, ensure the event welcomes everyone from first time mountain runners to seasoned ultra veterans. The Grand Raid des Pyrénées is a celebration of the rugged beauty and fierce character of the Pyrenean range, delivered with the warmth and generosity that define trail running in the south of France.
