Corsica's wildest trail running event, from the citadel of Corte to the granite peaks and glacial lakes of the Restonica Valley.
The Restonica Trail by UTMB takes runners into the untamed mountain heart of Corsica, starting from the historic citadel town of Corte. With distances from 9 km to 110 km and up to 7,200 meters of elevation gain, the courses traverse ancient mule tracks through maquis, chestnut forests, and soaring granite ridges that reach 2,456 meters.
Corsica is often called a mountain rising from the sea, and nowhere is this more true than in the region surrounding Corte, the island's historic inland capital. The Restonica Trail starts beneath the imposing citadel that has watched over the Restonica and Tavignano valleys for centuries, then sends runners climbing into a landscape of raw, elemental beauty: granite towers polished by millennia of wind and rain, crystalline glacial lakes cradled in high cirques, and forests of Corsican pine, holm oak, and sweet chestnut that fill the valleys with their fragrance.
The Ultra Trail di Corsica (110 km, 7,200 meters of elevation gain) is a formidable journey that traverses some of the most remote terrain on the island, with a high point of 2,456 meters. The Restonica Trail (69 km, 4,000 meters of gain) offers a concentrated dose of the same wild beauty, following ancient shepherd paths and mule tracks that connect the mountain villages of the interior. Even the shorter formats deliver an intensity of landscape that is uniquely Corsican: the scent of maquis on a warm afternoon, the turquoise glow of the Melo and Capitello lakes, the sound of a torrent rushing through a granite gorge.
As part of the UTMB World Series, the Restonica Trail offers valuable qualifying points, but the true reward is the island itself. Corsica runs like nowhere else on Earth, and this event captures the essence of the Isle of Beauty in every grueling, magnificent kilometer.
