One of the toughest 50Ks on earth, set high in Utah Wasatch Mountains with relentless climbing and technical terrain above 7,500 ft
Created by legendary ultrarunner Karl Meltzer, the Speedgoat 50K takes place at Snowbird Resort in Utah's Wasatch Mountains. With over 11,000 feet of elevation gain across brutally technical terrain, five major climbs reaching nearly 11,000 feet, and a lowest point still above 7,500 feet, it is widely regarded as the toughest 50K in the United States.
The Speedgoat 50K was born from the mind of Karl Meltzer, one of ultrarunning's most iconic figures and six time winner of the Wasatch 100. Since its inaugural edition in 2008, the race has earned a fearsome reputation as one of the most punishing 50K courses anywhere in the world, set entirely within the towering terrain of Snowbird Resort in Utah's Wasatch Mountains.
The course covers 32.4 miles with over 11,000 feet of elevation gain, featuring five major climbs that push runners toward summits approaching 11,000 feet. The lowest points on the route still sit above 7,500 feet, meaning there is no respite from the altitude. Rocky, technical singletrack, steep scree descents, and exposed ridgelines demand constant focus and sure footing from start to finish.
Speedgoat is not a race for the faint hearted. It is a pure mountain challenge that rewards grit, technical skill, and an appetite for vertical punishment. For those who seek the hardest short ultra in America, this is the proving ground.
