Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB

FRA Le Puy en Velay , FRA | 12 Jun - Jun 14, 2026

Follow the ancient pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela through the wild volcanic highlands of Auvergne on the UTMB World Series

The Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB traces the legendary Way of St. James from Le Puy-en-Velay through the Monts du Velay and the Gorges de l'Allier, blending spiritual heritage with rugged trail running. With distances from 12 to 139 km, runners finish before the UNESCO listed cathedral that has welcomed pilgrims for over a thousand years.

The Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB follows one of the most storied paths in European history. Since 2012, this race has invited runners to experience the Le Puy-en-Velay to Saugues section of the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage route that has drawn travellers for over a millennium. The trails cross the volcanic landscapes of Auvergne, threading through the Monts du Velay, the dramatic Gorges de l'Allier and the wild expanses of the Domaine du Sauvage.

The terrain is as varied as it is beautiful. Runners navigate rolling basalt plateaus, descend into deep river gorges, cross ancient stone bridges and climb through forests of beech and pine. The longer distances push into remote, sparsely populated highlands where the sense of solitude and connection to the land is profound. Every course finishes in front of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Puy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site whose façade has greeted pilgrims and runners alike for centuries.

As part of the UTMB World Series, the Trail du Saint-Jacques offers Running Stones and draws an increasingly international field. Yet the soul of the event remains rooted in the Auvergnat landscape: volcanic, spiritual, untamed. It is a race where history runs beneath your feet and the finish line carries a meaning that goes beyond sport.
