Transvulcania Terrex

ESP Los Llanos , ESP | 7 May - May 9, 2026

From sea level to the volcanic summit of La Palma, one of trail running's most iconic vertical challenges in the Canary Islands.

Transvulcania Terrex takes runners from the southern coast of La Palma up through ancient pine forests to the volcanic ridge of the Ruta de los Volcanes at over 2,400 meters. This legendary Canary Islands race is a vertical battle against the mountain, combining stunning volcanic scenery with relentless climbing.

Transvulcania Terrex is one of the most revered races in trail running. On the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands, the course begins at sea level on the southern coast and immediately launches into a punishing ascent through terraced vineyards, laurel forests and ancient Canarian pines. The climbing is relentless, carrying runners up to the Ruta de los Volcanes, a dramatic ridgeline trail at over 2,400 meters surrounded by volcanic craters and sweeping views of the Atlantic.

The volcanic terrain is unlike anything else on the racing calendar. Black lava fields, cinder trails and exposed ridgelines create a landscape that feels otherworldly, while the trade winds can whip across the high points with startling force. The descent into Los Llanos is equally demanding, with steep, technical switchbacks that test weary legs.

Transvulcania's atmosphere is legendary. The people of La Palma line the trails and roads, cheering with an intensity that has earned this race a reputation as one of the best spectator experiences in the sport. Combined with the island's unique beauty and the challenge of its terrain, Transvulcania delivers an experience that every trail runner should have at least once.
