Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB

AUS Thredbo, New South Wales , AUS | 26 Nov - Nov 28, 2026

Through the alpine heart of Australia's Snowy Mountains, where eucalyptus forests give way to the summit ridge of the continent's highest peak.

Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB takes runners through the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia's only true alpine region. The course climbs from Thredbo village through snow gum forests and alpine meadows to the summit area of Mount Kosciuszko, the highest peak on the Australian mainland.

In the Snowy Mountains of southern New South Wales, Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB offers the only genuinely alpine trail running experience in Australia. Starting from the ski village of Thredbo, the course climbs through ghostly snow gum forests, crosses alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers in season and reaches the high country surrounding Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m), the highest point on the Australian mainland.

The terrain is varied and engaging: rocky mountain paths, boardwalked sections through fragile alpine bogs, exposed ridge running above the treeline and fast flowing single track through eucalyptus forest. Despite the modest altitude by international standards, the Snowy Mountains offer genuine alpine conditions with rapid weather changes, cold winds and the possibility of snow even in late spring.

As part of the UTMB World Series, Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko brings world class racing to a corner of Australia that many international runners have never experienced. The pristine alpine environment, the unique Australian wildlife and the warm camaraderie of the local trail community make this a special addition to the global calendar.
