Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB

CHN Guangyuan , CHN | 6 Nov - Nov 8, 2026

On the ancient Shu Road through China's mountainous heartland, where cliff carved pathways and bamboo forests echo with centuries of history.

Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB takes runners through the historic Shu Road corridor near Guangyuan in Sichuan province, China. The course follows ancient trade routes carved into mountain cliffs, traverses bamboo forests and climbs through a landscape that has connected northern and southern China for over two thousand years.

The Shu Road is one of China's most legendary ancient routes, a network of cliff carved pathways and mountain passes that connected the Sichuan basin with the northern plains for over two millennia. Ultra-Trail Shudao by UTMB traces this historic corridor near Guangyuan, sending runners along narrow paths cut into vertical cliff faces, through dense bamboo groves and up mountain passes that once echoed with the footsteps of merchants, soldiers and poets.

The terrain is dramatic and varied: exposed cliff edge sections with views into deep gorges, shaded forest trails rich with subtropical vegetation, and sustained mountain climbs that test endurance at every turn. The Shu Road's cultural heritage is woven into the landscape, with ancient way stations, stone inscriptions and temple ruins punctuating the course.

As part of the UTMB World Series, Ultra-Trail Shudao invites the global trail community to discover a piece of China's deep history through the lens of trail running.
