Cocodona

USA Flagstaff , USA | 4 May - May 9, 2026

250 miles through Arizona's most extreme landscapes, from desert canyons to alpine peaks, the ultimate test of human endurance.

Cocodona is a 250 mile ultramarathon traversing Arizona from the Sonoran Desert to the pine forests of Flagstaff. Runners cross five distinct biomes, climb over 40,000 feet of elevation gain and push through extreme heat, altitude and isolation in one of the most demanding endurance events on the planet.

Cocodona is not merely a race; it is a crossing. Over 250 miles, runners traverse the full spectrum of Arizona's landscapes: from the saguaro studded Sonoran Desert floor to the volcanic red rock of Sedona, through the ancient Sinagua cliff dwellings of the Verde Valley and up into the ponderosa pine forests and alpine meadows of the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff. The cumulative elevation gain exceeds 40,000 feet, and the terrain ranges from sandy washes to technical mountain single track.

What sets Cocodona apart is its sheer ambition. Five distinct biomes in a single race, temperatures swinging from blistering desert heat to near freezing alpine nights, and stretches of profound solitude through some of the most remote terrain in the American Southwest. Runners must be entirely self sufficient in navigation and mental fortitude, pushing through sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion over multiple days.

For those who reach the finish in Flagstaff, the achievement transcends sport. Cocodona is a journey through geological time, indigenous history and the limits of human will. It stands alongside the world's greatest endurance challenges as a testament to what the body and mind can accomplish when everything else is stripped away.
